Atividade 1:
Como praticar o Passive Voice explorando o fascinante processo de fabricação de chocolate
A primeira atividade é voltada para estudantes com nível de protagonismo baixo, exigindo poucos conhecimentos prévios e utilizando estruturas verbais simples.
Para começar, praticaremos o Passive Voice para descrever um processo, e esse é um uso comum da Passive Voice em inglês. Aqui o foco é o nosso querido chocolate! Em casos como esse, não importa quem pratica a ação – o processo é semelhante no mundo todo. Como o chocolate é processado antes de chegar em nosso bolo, milk shake, sorvete? Preste atenção no primeiro quadro da imagem abaixo
Aqui, para descrever onde o cacau é cultivado, utilizaremos o verbo to be no presente e o past participle (terceira coluna dos verbos), segue um exemplo:
Cocoa comes from the cacao tree, which is grown (grow) in South America, Africa and Indonesia.

After which, the beans ____________ (ferment).
Then, they ____________ (dry) in the sun.

Atividade 2: Aprimore suas habilidades com a análise de uma notícia em inglês com passive voice
A atividade seguinte é voltada para estudantes com nível de protagonismo médio, exigindo conhecimento prévio de estruturas verbais simples e introduzindo o uso do past simple.
É muito comum encontrar exemplos de Passive Voice em notícias de jornal. O desafio aqui é identificar a passive voice na notícia fornecida (o primeiro exemplo já está grifado), em seguida, usar o mesmo verbo e estrutura da frase identiticada em uma frase própria (veja um exemplo nosso após a notícia) Também é uma boa ideia gravar a sua voz lendo a notícia em voz alta, checar se um tradutor entende a sua pronúncia e corrigir possíveis erros.
“Huge Diamond Found in Bangkok Sewer System
The largest recorded diamond ever discovered was unearthed beneath the streets of
Bangkok last week. A 375-karat stone was stumbled upon by a team of maintenance
workers cleaning out the sewer lines last Friday night. According to witnesses, the stone
was found by a man called Gerald. “I was walking through the sludge when suddenly I
tripped over an obstacle and fell flat on my face. When I reached down to remove the object,
I noticed it had a very fine surface, almost like glass, but it was so heavy I thought that
maybe it was a piece of concrete. “When I looked at it close to the light, I couldn’t believe my
eyes”, he is reported to have told his boss. Gerald was immediately taken back to his
company’s headquarters where the account of his story was confirmed. The head office of
Gerald’s company was inundated with friends and family wanting to know more about the
precious stone. After hearing media reports of his finding, Gerald then fled Bangkok not
wanting to draw too much attention to himself. Attempts to find Gerald by police and local
authorities have been unsuccessful. The stone was reported to have been purchased by an
unknown buyer from Dubai, going by the name of Mr. T. After collecting the precious stone
from Gerald, a private jet was chartered to fly Mr. T back to Dubai. The sewers of Bangkok
have since been overrun with prospectors looking to follow the fortunes of Gerald.”

A atividade seguinte é voltada para estudantes com nível de protagonismo alto, e testará suas habilidades em um contexto mais amplo. Aqui, o desafio é criar uma notícia envolvendo não apenas o presente, mas também o passado e o futuro. Escolha um tema, pesquise sobre e escreva sua própria manchete. Algumas sugestões de tópicos:
Technology – war – Hollywood – k-pop – dating – music – nightlife.
Se o tópico for tecnologia, um texto sobre o lançamento do Iphone ficaria mais ou menos assim:
The new iPhone was launched by Apple yesterday at the Tokyo Convention Centre. The sought-after gadget was unveiled by Apple’s CEO who was extremely proud to be introducing his product to the Asian market. Lines were formed by people wanting to buy the new phone. The queues stretched for miles. Images of the huge crowds were displayed on Google maps to the delight of the attentive crowd.
Observe como passado do verbo to be (was/were) foi utilizado nesses exemplos, além dos verbos no passado particípio:
The new Iphone was launched. (By Apple) – O novo Iphone foi lançado. (Pela Apple)
The sought-after gadget was unveiled (by Apple’s CEO) – O dispositivo desejado foi revelado. ( Pelo CEO da Apple)
